The Need:
In the case of this picture, the owner of this collection of wood pieces, laid them together on the floor for the purpose of taking the picture. This was a small shallow cabinet that -was- mounted in their bathroom. For some reason it was bumped the wrong way and fell off the wall and broke into individual pieces of wood. The owner really liked the cabinet an would like it replicated. |
Quote Proposal:
After getting the general requirements for the new cabinet, I used my Microsoft Excel to develop my quote I used simple lines to draw out the new cabinet shape. The overall dimensions were 25" x 25". In the bottom right corner is where a box of tissue sits on its side. The tissue box suggests the depth of the cabinet should be near 4" deep, therefore I can use 1 x 6 boards. I determined I need 225 inches of 1 x 6 boards, or I need (3 EA) 1 x 6 boards 8' long. |

Behind the Scenes:
I enjoy being a part of the children's ministry at my church. I lead the large group children's worship time. We write a script for each week which includes puppets interacting with the children. THE PROBLEM: All the puppets were living in a large storage tote and it was difficult to find the right puppet for the occasion. My older grandson Kevin and I designed this puppet rack to fit backstage. Now it is much easier to find the right puppet for each skit. |
The Children's Ministry Stage:
Children between 1st and 6th grade gather in this area every Sunday morning. The 5th and 6th graders help to do all the ministry activities. The puppets appear from the windows of the house on the left, from the tree house on the right or from the storefront windows. Small animals appear from the hole in the tree. The 5th and 6th graders also run the sound, light booth, and projection booth. The director and I help them with their weekly duties, and teach them proper ways to bring the puppets to animated life. |
My grandsons, Jessie and Nathaniel have outgrown the baby seats but are not tall enough for regular seating. So I made them grownup booster seats. Perfect!

I quess I fed them too much, now they can sit at the island on stools!

Toy Cook Stove:
I made this toy stove from 1/2 Inch furniture grade plywood. It was a Christmas gift for my youngest grandsons, 1 and 2 years old. The stove eyes are made from the same plywood, one side painted black, the other side painted red. The stove eyes are held in place over a round head bolt in the stove top. The grandsons turn the eyes over to the red side when cooking and turn them back to black when the meal is done. They also turn the knobs to the on position. The oven door hinges to the left because I have found it is very hard to deal with a door that hinges on the bottom. The door has a sheet of Plexiglas to watch things cook in the oven! The oven rack is a standard closet shelving. The drawer on the bottom slides on sliders and can be completely removed from under the oven. The youngest grandson tried to get into the oven on Christmas Day! They put the stove in the kitchen at their house and help mom cook meals. Mom Loves It Too! |

No Kids or Dogs Allowed
I built this three-sided fence and every year we use it to protect the Christmas Tree from the little kids and the dogs. |

Shadow Box for Predators Authentic Stanley Cup Shirt and Pucks
It happened in 2017. The Nashville Predators made it through the playoffs and into the 5th game of the Stanley Cup Championship. The pucks shown here are the commemorative pucks for the five Stanley Cup games. Every year the Predators host a bowling tournament in Nashville and the shirt shown here was worn by Pekka Rinne. The frame is made out of poplar flooring from my dad's house. I sandwiched the shirt between two pieces of Plexiglas which can be removed from the shadow box. The pucks are housed in 1 x 6 pine and the holes were cut out with a 3" circle saw. The wood was sanded, stained and finished with clear gloss polyethylene. This was given to my oldest grandson for Christmas 2017 by his uncle Craig. Needless to say, it was proudly received. |

Toy Wood Blocks
I like to make toy blocks from scrap wood that is left over from my other wood projects. I gave a set of 12 each of the pieces shown here to my grandsons for Christmas. The round pieces are from the holes made in the hockey puck shadow boxes shown above. |

Model Barn Scaled Down:
My son loves to collect Christmas collectibles. I made this scaled down replica and gave it to him as a kit. He will glue it together, cut out the doors and hinge them. He plans to purchase scaled windows from a craft store and then paint the barn red. |

Cluttered to Clean Pantry Area:
We have a small five-foot-wide laundry room that was very cluttered on the opposite side where the washer and dryer sit. I put 1/4" Plywood to line the back and used 1/2 " plywood shelving supported by 1" wide decking boards to support the weight on the shelves.
Then I purchased furniture grade boards to build the four sliding doors to cover the cleaned-up pantry area. We have so much more room for storage and can find everything we need very easily.

From Raw Wood to Planed Hardwood:
I cut down a very large hackberry tree in our yard and had it cut into raw wood. After it air dried for a season, I have a plainer and smoothed it down to furniture grade usable wood. I am planning to make a wraparound outdoor cooking station for my son's back deck. Looking forward to the new project.
